It’s Tuesday, again.

It’s Tuesday… again from Nelson Wang on Vimeo.

Here’s my attempt to revamp my two person dialogue piece. I probably should have just left it alone in retrospect (seeing how much work I put into it, and how much different it ISN’T) and started a new piece, but at least I’ve been animating, and I learned from it.

Here are the storyboards for my new idea for a short film. It’s pretty random, but it has (hopefully) all of the elements of a story. Thanks to my mentor, the great Nick Bruno, for all of the suggestions and guidance through this process.

The Unjust Vilification of the Gingerbread Man

The Unjust Vilification of the Gingerbread Man from Nelson Wang on Vimeo.

This is an animatic for a short film idea I had for Animation Mentor class 5. It’s way too long (supposed to be under 30 seconds) and after showing it to a few people, I found that the connection between the little girl and the gingerbread man are not established enough for the audience to feel sorry for either one of them. It also seems like people aren’t very entertained when they watch this, therefore I will file this under the “More fun to make than it was to watch” category.

Also, there’s also an inherent flaw that someone pointed out to me, that people are SUPPOSED to eat cookies, so unless I did a better job personifying the cookie (ie make it dance around or something) there’s nothing really wrong with what she did.

The theme of the story was to convey the idea that people tend to modify things/people in order to cater to their greedy needs, but I think that moral is lost and the idea is maybe too complicated for a 30 second piece. Which is funny because this was the simplest idea I had at the time. :)

I’ve learned that this is a case of over thinking things and I’m now trying to think of a MUCH simpler idea for a short film. So, for now, this will remain as is, unless I really can’t think of a better idea, which then I will maybe revisit it and try to edit it down to a simpler idea.

Thanks.

Its Tuesday from Nelson Wang on Vimeo.

This was an assignment for class 4 at Animation Mentor. The assignment was to create a dialog with two people and atleast a couple of shots. I’m proud of this shot, but it wouldn’t be what it is without all the feedback and help of my mentor and everyone else that gave great feedback. Thanks everyone!! And as always, comments and crits are very welcome!

All Bark…

All Bark from Nelson Wang on Vimeo.

This was an assignment for class 3 of AnimationMentor. The assignment was to show a change of emotion. I’m a big fan of old Warner Bros slapstick comedy, so I knew for the assignment that I wanted to get a nice big slap in.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. We had a frame limitation so the beginning is a little abrupt, but I’m pretty satisfied with the rest. Crits and Comments welcome!!
